The Day Before Winter

Comedy David-daily

Okay. It is finally going to cool off in Tampa. We might even get (overnight low) into the upper forties. Oh my!

This is sooo inconvenient. I may have to wear socks and shoes, a shirt! Hell, even more than just that. I’d better start looking for that jacket.

This puts a cramp in my habit of walking around butt naked, save my shorts, baby talking the kitty cats. My cat’s might not recognize me with all that winter stuff on. Hope they don’t run away.

What’s left of our Citrus farming loves this sort of weather, as it sweetens the oranges. I grew up with Citrus. Eating tons of it right from the trees. That’s part of being a Tampian. That, and cigars, Cuban coffee and dominoes.

On the plus side of Winter finally paying a visit, I get to enjoy my fireplace and fire ring. Mostly the fire ring. The fireplace sucks. I want a wood stove, but haven’t quite gotten that yet. I’m going to make one from scratch, which needs a few tools still outstanding.

My fire ring though, now sure, its just a steel tire rim on fire bricks, on a concrete pad, but that’s all it has to be. Sitting in the cold(ish), in front of a fire, coffee in hand, the love of God on me, that’s a good time. Maybe a radio. Probably a cigar. Cats afoot. Watching and hearing the fire, being as old as we get. Its primal and magnificent!

Winter Cleaning.

Being in house and yard mode, and this being Florida, I’m cleaning out a bunch of stuff I’ve “saved up” for just this occasion. The cats need a warm place to crash, when they’re not on top of me, in bed. So I’m cleaning out the back room.

When we got this place some thirty years ago, there was a collapsed garage in the back yard. We tossed that thing right away, but I’ve yet to build anything back. So all this stuff that would normally be in a garage is in this back room, and the rest of the house. (This house is a tear-down by the way. I started fixing it up, but its not worth it. I’m going to build and ICF when I can afford it, which might be never.) So there’s lots of opportunity to toss more stuff. And organize the rest of it. I’ve got today to do it in the eighties, and come tomorrow, winter arrives!

Too bad I haven’t installed the new hot-water heater. Colder showers await. Huh. That’s quite an experience. Those in the know, know.

What is your favorite part of Winter?

Thanks for the visit. Please share this if you like. See you next time!
