Men Are Jungle, Women Are Zoo?

Cognition David-daily Fundamentals

A recent discussion about the differences between men and women reminded me of something from college. There’s a question asked in the course of getting a Bachelor’s of Arts, perhaps: “If you’re an animal, would you want to live in the jungle, or the zoo?” I ran across this question a couple of times in the course of getting my degree, and always answered jungle. But this is a trick question, as we are animals, and we do get to make this choice.

It seems to me, that a gender difference between men and women is revealed in how we answer this question. The men I know mostly would answer jungle, as I did. We’re alphas, we’re all about the jungle. The women I know, I believe would mostly answer zoo. Both of which make sense. Men are protectors and providers, women are nurturers and healers.

As men, women are our zoo. I suspect that as women, men are their jungle. And that is where we share our lives together. It works out so well, humanity survives. Love, marriage, children, old age and done.

Or am I wrong?

I cannot speak for women, or really even other men. For myself though, I’m not looking for protection nor provisioning. Such a life is intolerable, boring, purposeless. Adventure and productivity are my play.

If I were a woman, with a family to take care of, I’d be very interested in protection and provisioning. I wouldn’t have a family without these.

This is a natural, sensible difference between men and women, in my experience and understanding.
